Licensing for System Centre 2012
System Center 2012 Server Management Licensing
- License required only for endpoints being managed.
- Consistent licensing model across editions.
- Same capabilities across editions differentiated by virtualisation rights.
To be released in two editions:
- Datacenter: Maximizes cloud capacity with unlimited Operating System Environments
- Standard: For lightly or non-virtualised private cloud workloads.
Both editions have the same features. The only restriction is the amount of workloads you can manage
- Configuration Manager
- Service Manager
- VMM
- Ops Manager
- DPM
- Orchestrator
- App Controller
- Endpoint Protection
How many licenses do I need?
Based on a two physical processor license the license count is determined by the number of processors in each server (Datacentre) or the number of workloads (Standard) – whichever is greater
The System Centre management components form part of a suite of software (SC2012 Standard /SC2012 Datacentre) and therefore cannot be purchased separately
With this new release the following solutions will be retired:
- System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3
- System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2
- System Center Data Protection Manager 2010
- System Center Service Manager 2010
- System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2
How can I upgrade to the new license model
Microsoft is offering a grant for license migration for qualified SA customers
You will continue to pay on existing terms until the contract runs out and then proceed to renew SA on new licenses
VLSC will reflect the grant for qualifying licenses and will show up once SC2012 suite goes on GA. The ratio for this grant is detailed below
How much is the license
Volume License Open License US (NL) (Estimated Retail Price)
- Standard – $1,323
- Datacentre – $3,607
You will need to check with your local VAR for exact pricing
